Charter for Compassion by Karen Armstrong

In this video and a similar video linked below, Karen Armstrong describes the insight of Hillel, a Jewish teacher of Jesus’ time, when a potential convert approached Hillel and asked to be taught the entire Torah while standing on one foot, Hillel summarized as follows, “That which is hateful to you do not do to others. All the rest is commentary. Now go and learn.”  She also mentions that Augustine said no commentary of a scripture is valid, which is against the principles of charity.

It makes sense, as God, who is more loving than a mother towards humans, would not tell them to spoil and ruin each other.  Her other video is linked here also:

The Holy Quran describes time and again that Allah is with those who are of service to humanity.  Here I present three examples:

“And as for those who strive in Our path — We will surely guide them in Our ways. And Indeed Allah is with those who do good and are of service to others.” (Al Quran 29:70)

“And he who submits himself completely to Allah, and is of service to others, he has surely grasped a strong handle. And with Allah rests the end of all affairs.”  (Al Quran 31:23)

“Indeed, Allah is with those who are righteous and those who do good.”  (Al Quran 16:129)

If we follow Hillel’s commentary of the Torah summarized as follows, ‘That which is hateful to you do not do to others, all the rest is commentary, now go and learn,’ this week, USA and Israel should not veto the resolution of Palestenians in UNO this week!
